Bombardier - NAT

A case story: Displays for Nouvelle Automotrice Transillien, NAT, for île De France.

Bombardier Transportation in Crespin France has developed a new platform for SNCF called NAT – Nouvelle Automotrice Transillien. The trains will operate on the Transillien suburban network around Paris. The project includes initial deliveries of 172 train sets of this modern platform. For NAT Focon was chosen to supply two IP-network based displays ESD (External Side Display) and DRM (Dynamic Route Map). The DRM is unique with no less than four TFT panels allowing comprehensive information to be shown during travel

Both the Dynamic Route Maps and External Side Displays are controlled by Bombardiers TCMS – Train Control and Management System. An IP-network is responsible for the data communication between TCMS and the displays.

Dynamic Route Map

The Dynamic Route Map consists of four individual 10.4 inch TFT flat panel displays placed side by side, close together, capable of showing high-resolution bitmaps.
The Dynamic Route Map provide information to passengers inside the train. The displays are placed in the vestibule of the train. One on each side of the entrance in the ceiling.

External Side Display

The External Side Display is a graphic LED display designed to show the final destination and calling pattern of the train. The display text appears as yellow on a dark background giving the optimum contrast. The text may be fixed, flashing or scrolling to the left or
right.
The graphic matrix has 16 x 225 LED dots and can show approximately 25 characters - depending on font and character width. The External Side Display provides information to the passengers outside the train on the platform. The displays are mounted on the inside of the train in the top of two windows, one on each side of each car.

Dynamic Road Map

The TFT flat panels may be grouped dynamically or individually to show dynamic travel information such as graphical presentation of progress on route. This information may be combined with service information, news and advertising.
