Alstom - Coradia
A case story: Focon equipment on-board Alstom Coradia Regional Trains.
Alstom has delivered Coradia Regional Trains to several European train operators. Alstom chose Focon as supplier of information, entertainment and communication equipment for the Coradia Nordic X60, X61 and X62 fleets and Coradia Continental XCC in Germany.
Overview – Focon suppliesFocon is the system supplier responsible for audio communication systems, passenger information displays, CCTV video surveillance, multimedia systems and RIS, a German travel information system.

Passenger Information DisplaysInterior displays indicate next stop and give further information such as time, the train route, possibilities for connections etc. through a scrolling text message.

CCTVThe vehicle interior is monitored by means of video cameras. Images are recorded on an exchangeable disk and are stored for a defined period, say, at least 24 hours. After this period of time, data is erased and/or overwritten with new data (ring-type record). All data is processed in accordance with applicable data protection regulations. Multimedia systemOn 19” TFT monitors it is possible to give enhanced visual information. This includes position of the train, service messages, graphical and visual information about the stations, tourist information and much more. |
Public AddressAn internal loudspeaker system ensures the audio information to the passengers. This includes automatic announcements such as announcement of the next stop as well as operational announcements from the driver and the train control centre to inform the passengers e.g. about operational restrictions or delays. Intercommunication facilities Communication between the driver‘s cabs is possible by means of a separate driver-driver communication. Passenger Emergency Communication Passengers can contact the driver via talk-back facilities in each entrance area. RISCoradia Continental XCC in Germany are in some cases equipped with DB Regio distributes dynamic passenger information using the so called Reisendeninformationssystem or RIS. An interface between RIS and the Focon system is available via a GPRS connection. On 19” TFT monitors, Focon’s system transforms RIS data into graphical information e.g. about the progress on the route, connections at stations and irregulariti.
